How To Deliver Your Wedding Speech Like A Pro - Part 2

In this article we will continue on from part 1, with our theme of delivering your wedding speech like a professional – without nerves or mistakes.

One of the most common problems people having when speaking in public (and wedding speeches are no exception) is they speed up when they get nervous.

This isn’t good for you, or the speech, or the audience.

Remember to breath (look up diaphragmatic breathing on Google, it’ll help you stay relaxed and talk clearly), and don’t rush through your speech.

Give it the time it deserves.

If you feel yourself getting nervous, use the old pro’s trick of looking at one audience member who you know very well, and pretend you’re giving the speech to just them on their own.

If you feel nervous and can’t shake it, don’t worry… just fake it! A confident speaker will stand tall and pronounce things clearly. You can do the same – even if you feel nervous.

A confident speaker will keep eye contact with the audience members while he talks. You can do the same. In fact, by copying the way a confident speaker delivers a speech, you’ll start to feel more confident in yourself.

Okay… now we come to a biggie. Jokes. What if they don’t get your jokes? What if they don’t laugh? Remember this: If you want your audience to laugh, just take a breath, and wait for it to happen.

It may take a second or two for the joke to sink in… but it can feel like ages when you’re delivering it. People listening to a wedding speech are going to be very open to a little humor, so don’t worry about your jokes bombing.

They will enjoy the chance to laugh as it breaks the tension. The fact that everyone may have had a little to drink makes it even easier!
