The first step is to thank the Master of Ceremonies for introducing you as the mother or father of the groom and your speech. This is a polite way to get things going. If the people who contributed to the wedding bill have already be thanked, there really isn’t much need for a father or mother of the groom to thank them again… but if it has been left out, it makes a nice gesture for you to thank them. If they have already been thanked, you could offer some nice words about them. As you get more into the meat of your speech, you may like to say a few words about your son.
