Tips For During The Wedding Speechn this article we are going to give you some crucial tips that will help you out if anything “happens” during your wedding speech. When you get to this stage, you have put in too much effort to let it all go wrong at the last minute… so read these tips carefully. If you’re nervous you may start to feel like your mouth is going dry. Feel free to have a quick sip of water if you need to . Simple tip, we know. But you’d be surprised by how many people feel they can’t stop for a sip of water once they’ve started. If you need to, then do it – it will show you’re relaxed and aren’t worried about making this speech. If you can hear people talking or whispering, just ignore it. Don’t make a big thing out of it by confronting them, and don’t let it really bother you either. It’s their problem that they are rude enough to talk while someone is giving a speech, not yours. So do your best to ignore it. |

If you tell a joke that nobody laughs at… don’t panic! Don’t try to start it again or anything like that. Just have a handy come back ready like: “I thought it was a dumb joke, too”. This will save you from the silence, and probably get a laugh. If someone starts heckling (in jest, hopefully) pause right there and then, and let them throw their line. If it’s funny then it has only improved your speech – because it made people laugh while you were in the limelight. If you want a good come back, try something like “Isn’t the point of heckling to make the speaker look stupid, not the heckler?”
This is a useful fallback line to use in many situations outside of
wedding speeches, too. |
