If you are planning on cracking jokes in your wedding speech… you need to etch those three words on to your head. Is the crowd young or old? How will the audience react to any use of profanity or sexuality (if in doubt… strike it out). Do you really want to be known as the guy who offended everybody? The next tip is to avoid using any kind of inside joke. If it’s funny, then everyone needs to find it funny. And to find it funny, they need to understand it. So inside jokes between you and the groom aren’t going to work in your favor over the long run – you’ll just lose the audience. Our next tip for injecting just a little bit of humor is to use a few easy one liners. You don’t need riotous laughter during your wedding speech. You’re not trying to be a comedian. Just something to liven things up a little. You don’t need to go off on wild tangents to find humor. Let it find you. Something that often goes down well is to talk about a funny moment with the groom or the bride. Re live the moment and describe what happened (must be clean). Again, you need to make sure that people will get the humor. No inside jokes, and no "inside" funny stories. |
